Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago - “Press Play” Family Day Activation
Late 2024, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago contacted me about leading an animation workshop/activation for their monthly Family Day in January 2025, themed “Press Play”. Needless to say, I was incredibly honored to be considered, and dove headfirst into preparations for this once in a lifetime opportunity! The resulting activity involved printing out an agreed upon animation, frame by frame, so that kids from the ages of 5-12 could collaboratively build an animation without being overwhelmed by the process. We took pictures of the drawings with Dragonframe software live, resulting in the video above. This is the first ever animation activation to take place at the MCA for Family Day, and I could not be more proud of the final result.
I’m so thankful to the MCA, and every parent and child who participated, for granting me the honor of collaborating with you all. Witnessing the joy that the children experienced as they colored and watched their drawings come to life was truly transformative, just like the animation we built together! It was also so exciting seeing so many adults participate! It was priceless to see them light up and unleash their inner child. I’m also extremely appreciative of all my friends who came to color and support. For a myriad of reasons I was extremely anxious to lead this event, and seeing familiar faces meant so much more than you could ever know. Endless thank yous, and check out this gorgeous animation we created!
